Jimmy Anderson was still bowling for England at the age of 41....

Jimmy Anderson continued to fast bowl  for England at the age of 41.

In fact the statistics show he is improving with age contrary to all expectations of someone practicing his particular specialism. A comprehensive article in the Sunday Times told the story.

It picks up a number of themes from liveyounglonger, most notably the exercise dimension. Running and strength exercises made up most of his programme, supplemented by long walks (and some golf) which mimic the long hours a cricketer can stay on the field.

The exercises are informed by a programme designed by Loughborough University on behalf of the English Cricket Board which have used science to work out how to minimise the kind of strains experienced by different bowlers.

All this is supported by a diet programme provided by his nutritionist with particular focus on replacing the high number of calories Anderson burns up.

In addition, Anderson has a supportive family, especially challenging in cricket where the players can be away from home for months on overseas tours.

Remarkably Anderson played in his tenth Ashes series in 2023, surpassing everyone else in the post-War era. His statistics tell the tale of a sportsman whose bowling averages are improving, quite a remarkable achievement.
