Toward the end of 2024 Jeremy Clarkson had to have stents inserted in his heart to improve blood flow. Since then he has contemplated how he might improve his health.
What is driving him on to do so is described in an amusing article in the Sunday Times. He talks about the joy of his grandchildren, not only the pleasure they provide when he is with them but his ability to hand them back to their parents. Whilst this is written with humour you sense that his joy is real (he’s found another sense of purpose?)
He goes on to describe his loathing of various forms of exercise, notably using a treadmill, cycling, yoga and even walking (he doesn’t mind the actual walking providing it’s not raining, is too hot, too cold, or he’s too busy to do it).
However, he has now come across Pilates, which involves the use of a Reformer, a machine which facilitates the exercises involved in the activity. And he is enjoying it! He has found out that his pelvis is ‘so cockeyed I look like a broken shotgun’. He realises that while the level of effort required is not as strenuous as other types of exercise, it is doing him some good.
