Can you remember King Crimson? Sadly I can. If you do as well you are over the age of 70.
King Crimson was a so-called prog rock band founded in the late 60’s by Michael Giles and Robert Fripp. Michael’s brother Peter played the drums on their second album.
Now aged 80, Peter Giles turned 80 in 2024 and is now, according to an article in the Sunday Times, Britain’s fastest old man. He and fellow octogenarians broke the British record in the 4x100 metres at the World Masters Athletics Championship in Sweden in August 2024. At this event Peter won five gold medals and a silver, all in the M80 category for men aged 80 to 84.
So, what’s the secret to his success? He says it’s a simple diet, a positive attitude and a profound spiritualism. On the diet front he avoids processed foods. Breakfast is porridge and an orange; lunch, three scrambled eggs. Afternoon it’s muesli with a fruit salad, then dinner is fish or meat with vegetables and an occasional glass of wine. He also takes Vitamin D to keep his bones strong. He never visits a gym but prefers to mend furniture and move furniture around as a handyman for a local firm.
As for spiritualism he and his wife believe in transmutation, the power to channel energies to transform the mind and body.
It’s a thought-provoking article.
