The secret to living well......

This was the headline on an article in the Daily Telegraph by Professor John Tregoning. The article is a summary of book he published in 2025 on the subject of longevity and extending healthspan.

In the book Tregoning explores a wide range of areas that have been put forward as helping to extend our healthy lives. He took DNA tests, blood tests, tried cold water swimming, reduced his calorie intake, exercised (only to tear a muscle), took poo samples to analyse his gut microbiome, tried to cut down on alcohol - a long list.

He came to share an opinion voiced by the comedian Woody Allen:-

“You can live to be a hundred if you give up all the things that make you want to live to be a hundred.”

He concluded that one of the most cost effective ways of extending healthspan is to increase our social connections. In his words:- “Take the money you would have spent on the latest device and invest it in doing things you like with people you love.”
